Hattie Brown Garrow covers Suffolk schools. She also is a general assignment reporter for the Suburban team.

Hattie came to The Virginian-Pilot in July 2005. Before then, she spent two years at The Roanoke Times as an education and community news reporter for Neighbors, a five-zone, weekly tab, and then as night police reporter.

Born and raised in Chesapeake, Hattie wrote for The Pilot’s teen page while in high school. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and English in 2003.
