Vicki L. Friedman covers high school and college sports.
Vicki has been with The Virginian-Pilot since 1992, working first as a features department copy editor and making the move to sports in 1995. In that time she has covered Old Dominion women’s basketball and high school sports, and been a general assignment sports reporter. For the past five years, she has been one of 44 voters in The Associated Press women's basketball poll and has had a vote for several national women’s basketball awards, including the Wooden Award and the Nancy Lieberman Award.
From 1990-1991, Vicki worked as a high school sports and general assignment reporter at The Coloradoan in Fort Collins, Colo. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University in 1988. In 1990, she received the first scholarship from the Association for Women in Sports Media , resulting in an internship at The Philadelphia Inquirer.
A native of Washington, D.C., Vicki and her husband, Mike Holtzclaw, a reporter at The Daily Press, have two sons, Harry and Benjamin, and a Japanese Chin, Merlin.
