Former NFL player Reamon named Landstown football coach

Tommy Reamon, a former NFL player who has coached two well-known pro quarterbacks, has been hired as Landstown High School’s football coach.

Reamon, 56, recently resigned as the coach at Gloucester High on the Peninsula. At Landstown, he replaces Steve Canter, who left after two seasons to become an assistant at Norfolk State.

Reamon was a star running back at Missouri before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He later played for the Kansas City Chiefs. Attempts to reach Reamon on Tuesday were unsuccessful.   Reamon’s first coaching job was at the old Manor High in Portsmouth. He then moved to the Peninsula to coach at the old Ferguson High, Warwick and most recently at Gloucester. Reamon coached future NFL quarterbacks Aaron Brooks and Michael Vick at Ferguson and Warwick, respectively.

At Gloucester, Reamon compiled a 7-23 record during the past three seasons, including 1-9 each of the past two. There, he coached his son Tommy Jr., a highly touted quarterback who has signed to play at ODU.

Reamon inherits a highly successful program at Landstown. The Eagles went 13-7 during the past two seasons under Canter. He had taken over for Chris Beatty, who guided Landstown to a 40-2 record and three state championship game appearances. The Eagles won the Group AAA Division 6 state title in 2004.
