NORFOLK

Police have one person in custody in connection with an early-morning shooting in the 300 block of Granby St.

At 2:04 a.m., gunshots were heard in the downtown area, a few minutes after a man had been beaten during a fight in the same area, said Sgt. Jim Robertson, a police spokesman.

Officers found two men suffering gunshot wounds.

One of the men's conditions was upgraded this afternoon to critical but stable, and the other suffered injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, Robertson said.

No names were released.

Initially, two adults were being questioned about the shooting, Robertson said this morning.

A lot across from the Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center at Tidewater Community College was blocked this morning by yellow police tape. Forensics experts appeared to be finishing up their work and packing up to leave the scene.
